FEICA 2001 European Adhesives Conference & Expo
Hotel Hilton Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium
20-21 September 2001

Reflections on the European Adhesives Conference 2001 in Antwerp

Almost 310 delegates from 19 countries participated in the EAC 2001. Carefully selected by the Conference Committee 24 presentations informed the participants on how to build profitability through technology. In Technical and Business Sessions as well as in Workshops, issues such as e-Commerce, innovative raw materials, adding value, and the impact of legislation on our business was presented by experts and deeply discussed.

On 30 booths the supplying industry presented their innovative solutions, equipment and services to the international audience.

During the Opening Session Mike Ozier focussed on the specific needs of the adhesives industry. Rudi Fuessl emphasized the importance of this item from the perspective of the raw material suppliers. Carlo Bassi, deeply involved in the restructuring process of FEICA, expressed the high degree of responsibility that FEICA´s decision making bodies have taken over with respect to small and medium-sized enterprises and the structure of national adhesives associations.

With his Key-Note Speech "The Commission´s White Paper on the Strategy for a future Chemicals Policy" Reinhard Schulte-Braucks, European Commission, gave an overview of the structure of the chemical industry, shortcomings of the present and proposals for a new policy. The following discussion offered the audience the opportunity to communicate the opinion of the Adheisves Industry.

The unforeseen events in the United States of 11 September 2001 also clouded our annual European Adhesives Conference in Antwerp. In respect to the tragedy the Gala Diner took place without any entertainment.

All aspects considered Antwerp was a very successful event and now we are looking forward to the 2002 EAC in Florence, which will be held on 26/27 September 2002 at the Sheraton Hotel, Florence.
