History

History of FEICA

Already in the late 1950ies the first meetings of European producers of vegetable adhesives from 5 countries took place. From then on every two years meetings were held, mostly in the Netherlands and France, until in 1967 for the first time also European producers of chemical adhesives were invited to participate.

In 1968 the first liaison office in Düsseldorf was established and in 1969 the decision was taken to elect a new president of the liaison office every year.

Finally, in 1972 FEICA ( Fédération Européenne des Industries de Colles et Adhésifs) was founded in the first General Assembly being held in Rome with the election of Mr. Wilfried de Kesel, Fédération des Industries Chimiques de Belgique, as first president of the new Association of European Adhesives and Sealants Manufacturers.

The presidentships of the following years are listed under “FEICA in brief – Presidents”.

From 1972 up to now FEICA has experienced a continuous growth with respect either to Member Associations (15 up to now) as well as to the variety of the fields of application and standardisation of adhesives, transport of dangerous goods and many other aspects. Meanwhile contacts have been established not only with America (Adhesive and Sealant Council) but also with Asia (World Adhesives Conference 2004, Beijing), and the General Assemblies and Expositions are attended by delegates and experts from throughout the world.

As of January 2007 the office of FEICA will be located in Brussels in the premises of the European Chemical Council (CEFIC). This will enable us to become more involved with new European regulations and advocate the interests of the Adhesive and Sealant Industry.

National Associations FORUM

PURPOSE

On September 2006, the FEICA general assembly agreed to reorganize the Association..
The organization streamline process suppressed the” Secretary Council “body.
Consequently no platform was available to enable the National Association (NA) to meet on a regularly basis to exchange information’s, to learn how issues were resolved in other European countries, to cooperate and network.

After the September General Assembly, many National Associations expressed their concerns.
To address this issue, the Executive Board decided in November 2006 to create 2 new bodies:
The National Association Forum (NA Forum) and the Direct Member Forum (DM Forum).
The first NA Forum took place on May 9th 07 and the DM Forum will take place before September 07.

SCOPE

The NA Forum is the preferred communication platform for the NA Presidents and Secretaries to debate the following topics:

  1. Identify, select and present candidates to the General Assembly for election as representative at the Executive Board. The identification and selection process will take into account the need to have representatives of the large, medium and small size associations. The Forum will also agree the role and responsibilities the representatives will endorse to the other NA’s.
  2. Identify, select and present candidates to the Executive Board for election as representative at the European Technical Board.
  3. Report on a regular basis the key NA activities and any technical or legal concerns arising on a National level but with European implications (ea. Formaldehyde legislation in France).
  4. Feed back any deviations in the National enforcement of EU Directives or Regulations to ensure consistency throughout the member states.
  5. Agree best communication practice amongst NA’s.

The Forum will be organized by the FEICA Secretariat in a need-to-basis frequency but at least twice a year.

The venue and the agenda will be decided by the NA members.

The Forum will be chaired on a rotated basis by a NA Secretary for a period of one year.
